About
Founded in 2013, SeaGL aims to strengthen the free software movement through mentorship, collaboration, and community. The conference brings together technologists, students, contributors, and enthusiasts across many disciplines. SeaGL (Seattle GNU/Linux Conference) is a free—as in freedom and tea—grassroots technical summit dedicated to free/libre/open source software, hardware, and culture. The event is welcoming to newcomers, professionals, hobbyists, and anyone interested in FLOSS.
When & Where
October 23rd & 24th, 2026 Held at the University of Washington HUB and most talks are streamed on Youtube.
Matrix real-time chat is used extensively for online conference participants.
- Main chat space and home on Matrix, available to public.
- Never used Matrix? Install Element client and create a free account.
- SeaGL 2026 Matrix space and chats TBD. Links will be added once available.
Attend
SeaGL is free to attend, and registration is optional. Attendees may participate anonymously to protect their privacy.
All attendees must follow the Code of Conduct and, for in‑person participation, the Health & Safety Policy.

SeaGL 14 Date Change and CFP Extension (June 1, 2026)
Due to a venue scheduling conflict, SeaGL 2026 has moved to October 23–24. The CFP has been extended through June 30. Organizers will contact existing submitters to confirm availability.
Call for Presentations (April 24, 2026)
The CFP is open until June 30, 2026 at 23:59 PDT. SeaGL welcomes talks on:
- FLOSS introductions
- Technical deep dives
- FLOSS alternatives
- Hacking for good
- Security & privacy
- Open source in education & art
Sponsored talks are not accepted. Program Committee: Dina Buric and Dawn Cooper.
Keynote Nominations
SeaGL selects four keynote speakers each year: two experienced keynoters and two first‑timers. Nominees should be connected to FLOSS values and community work.
Suggestions may be submitted through the Keynote Nomination Form.
Keynote Preview & CFP Opening (April 16, 2026)
Highlights:
- Keynote nominations open; community suggestions encouraged.
- SeaGL will have a booth at LinuxFest Northwest on April 25–26.
- CFP opens April 24.
- Volunteers are welcome across all committees.
Call for Coordinators (March 26, 2026)
SeaGL seeks coordinators for:
- Attendee Experience (AX) — maps, room flow, snacks, signage
- IDEA — Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access
- Policy & Protocol — Code of Conduct, Health & Safety
Additional volunteer roles include Partnerships, A/V, DevOps, and Promotion & Outreach.

Exhibitors
SeaGL 2026 will host a centralized exhibitor hall. FLOSS projects and nonprofits may request free space. Sponsorship levels and add‑ons are available.
