Description:
For many, Linux is synonymous with the command line and development, but it is also a powerful tool for those with high demands for private computing who may not be developers. This session is a user's tour of a Debian desktop environment tailored for data privacy, CPU control, and fast performance on older hardware.
The speaker will share a typical workflow and file-management strategy for practically all-local data, focusing on writing, layout, graphics, and archiving research topics. This tour explores the “every-day-drivers” of a long-time user, including tools like XFCE, LibreOffice, Emacs org-mode, Thunar, Meld, Thunderbird, Evolution, Calibre, Dino, Firefox, FoxtrotGPS, KeePass, Gramps, Osmo, Filezilla, VLC, Scribus, Blender, GIMP, Xournal, Qalculate, and AisleRiot.
Target Audience:
- Non-developer Linux users
- Privacy and local-first data advocates
- Users running Linux on older hardware
